Senate Job Hunt Mega Thread

Cantwell is hiring for someone to cover consumer protection / data privacy issues. Her office tends to be relatively well run.

TechCongress reopened this due to a lack of Republican applicants.

Are there similar fellowship programs for internships?

GOP office is looking for an LC covering energy. The current one told me they’re about to get fired. DM for details.

Lol what did they do?

Something to do with looking at the Senator’s personal files, some of which were classified. Can’t give more details than that since it’s not public yet.

interested. Won’t let me DM you on here right now.

DMed you.

Anything new with the new year? I have a coworker looking for a LA / policy role on the D side with a focus on Payments and Sanctions.

Any Dem committees hiring? My policy area is health & environment! I also applied to an LA position with Markey (EPW).

Hi! Just joined as an intern and want to network to potentially get a full time position (December graduate). What would be the most effective people to network with? LAs? DSchedulers? DCoS?

LAs are good and try LDs, but LDs tend to be more swamped.
I would also say that Office Administrators / Administrative Directors (offices call them different things) are underrated since they handle the actual HR paperwork.

Depends on what your interests are (obviously network with comms ppl if you want to do comms, policy to policy, etc.).

Ideally, if you can get on the radar of a Chief/LD/Staff Director, they can effectively just pick you for an opening they may have under them. But realistically, for someone at your level of seniority, it’s going to be very hard to get on their radar. You probably will have a better shot at networking with LAs. LAs gossip amongst each other quite a bit and they may know if there’s going to be an opening (sometimes sooner than even the senior staff). Happy to go into more detail depending on what your specific interests are.

Not a committee, but I know that Fetterman is is hiring for an LA to cover health issues

i would love to apply, but I dont have the best track record getting interviews on the Senate side :smiling_face_with_tear:.

Have you tried directly reaching out to staff on the team for coffee? I’ve found that to give me the best hit rate. Obvi I reach out to talk about other stuff, but I use the opportunitiy to talk about the job towards the end of the conversation.

Yes I do lol. I even have people from other offices flag. They like to prioritize people with a lot of Hill experience. I have local, state, federal (EPA & White House) as well as House Committee exp.
