Senate Job Hunt Mega Thread

Do you mind a DM to share more information?

:+1:. Yup. Go ahead.

Interning this summer in the Senate after graduating. Is getting a staff assistant, or any hill job for that matter, just a matter of network. It seems like as long as you’re a good intern, all that really differentiates between them is who you know. Looking for any advice/information on how this process works and what differentiates those who strike out vs those who are able to land offers post internship or even mid-internship

Yeah use your time in person to try to get as many coffee chats with other people as you can. Also go to receptions and try to be social!

Also be upfront with your office about your aspirations a good office will do what they can to boost you. Every office is proud of thier alum network

A big part is luck in that there just so happens to be an opening that you find out about. So to maximize your luck, yes make sure to have a wide network.

Back in the age of dinosaurs, I landed a SA role because I found out about the opening chatting with someone at an event in capitol visitor center.

Are you working for Dem or Republican office?

I only ask because there’s a Republican office on the House side that sends out a social blast 1-2 times a month with a bunch of receptions/events. When I first started in the senate, I went to a few of these and became acquainted with someone in the Leader’s office which turned out to be very helpful in my career growth.

Feel free to DM me if you’d be more comfortable with that

Has anyone heard about any LC/LA openings recently? House or Senate, preferably R

Also open to off the hill but I’d prefer to stay on

What policy areas are you looking for?

Defense, tech, space, or energy

I heard about a defense/tech leg aide who just left. DM me.

Sent you a message!

Anyone know of openings focused on financial services on the R side? Especially banking

There’s one in the House
