RPC Propaganda Session

Who else is at this filibuster briefing?

I’m here. I wonder how many people actually care about Jim’s antics or if everybody is just laughing to be nice to the old man.

I don’t mind it too much. I just wonder why he doesn’t go in order when introducing ppl.

10 minutes of introduction… 10 minutes of my life I’m never going to get back

I thought I wouldn’t have any more boring lectures after I graduated from college. Fml

Who is this Jim guy and why is he always the one running all of these events when he’s not the expert on any of them?

This is dry even for me. I dont know who this is supposed to help.

He’s been on the Hill for longer than any of us have been alive. He’s the guy who doesn’t know much substance, but he does know everyone, so you keep him around in case you need a rolodex.

lol you guys are doing another one? Does this have any substance above just asking ChatGPT?

This CRS lady is basically contradicting Jim on the need for a filibuster. She just noted how much the vote threshold has changed over time. Ridiculous that dinosaurs like Jim refer to this as some sacrosanct procedure.

No

They should just bring back the talking filibuster. If the minority wants to stop something, they need to work for it.

She doesn’t understand how important the institution is. It’s what protects us from the tyranny of the majority.

We can’t afford to do that anymore. Our members are too old to do a proper talking filibuster

Who gives a damn! The LCs and interns (most of the ppl here) are all dozing off. Who is this even for.

Hilarious how she’s describing the en bloc nomination as some kind of well thought out procedure as though we didn’t just conjure that out of thin air

sounds like this is some Republican meeting, but yeah, kinda ridiculous for any Republican to defend the filibuster given they killed it for Supreme Court noms

I wish someone would just come right out and say, “the procedure is whatever we say it is.”

In fairness, Dems started it in 2013

It’s not though. It’s about precedent and decorum. You need to respect the body.
